Pressure Sensor Inventor Henrik Kahanpää & Bogus Mars Data

      This story, when complete, will use the Torah Code as an instrument to examine the engineer who designed the Vaisala pressure transducer responsible for all air pressure measurements made on Mars by the Mars Phoenix Lander and by the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover. It will also reveal that the Torah Code is the subject of daily investigations by NASA (in particular, by NASA Ames). While many of the over 1,400 Ark Code articles that they visit relate to religious matters (including the location of the Ark of the Covenant as revealed by ELS Maps), it is not known if they read what is posted here for religious reasons or whether their Curiosity (please forgive the pun) is to determine if the Code is an alien language or the result of some sort of Artificial Intelligence from the future. As per my intention, these articles are also closely tracked by various U.S. Intelligence Agencies.

TERMS ON FIGURE 1. On Figure 1 the axis term is the only transliteration that I could find of HENRIK KAHANPÄÄ. The matrix was sought to learn if the Code suggests he willingly participated in a hoax or did not. At skip +1 and also at the same absolute skip, but opposite direction I found FRAUD/HOAX encoded, but not in a way that was conclusive. This is because the 4-letter find at skip +1 was immediately preceded by the Hebrew letters lamed alef. The meaning? NOT DECEIVING. However, given that Kahanpää often publishes data that is obviously ludicrous, I’m not sure that he is really deceiving scientists – and certainly not deceiving anyone regularly reading our audit of his data on our MarsCorrect.com site or on our Davidaroffman.com site. Since he is a regular reader of my analysis of his work, he knows full well that (a) I will catch obvious mistakes, and (b) NASA/JPL will generally alter his data to make it less obvious that it has serious problems with the data (much of which is obviously invented by NASA - examples will be given below). The term FRAUD/HOAX that is at the same absolute skip as his name is also problematic. While not shown, if I extended the matrix up by three lines I would see another lamed alef. That 6-letter term could be translated as NO CHEATING. The matrix includes an ELS of VAISALA (the name of the company that manufactures the pressure sensor instrument), ITAR at the same skip as VAISALA (ITAR is an abbreviation for International Traffic in Arms Regulations - which NASA used as an excuse to keep vital information from Kahanpää and Polkko (2009), THE INSTRUMENT, MARS,  ORDERED at skip -1, AIR at skip -1, and SKY in the open text.

STATISTICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF FIGURE 1. As per my standard protocol, no statistical significance is attached to the axis term, here HENRIK KAHANPÄÄ at its only ELS  in wrapped Torah. The a priori key words found were not individually of astounding significance, but the combined value of the many terms led to a calculation that it was found against odds of about 23,770 to 1. The most significant terms found were FRAUD, THE INSTRUMENT, and VAISALA. However the term FRAUD was clouded by the negative term before it. In a way, from a religious point of view this is not very surprising. Religion is about faith. A clear answer here, especially if it were to strongly reinforce fraud, leads to questions of motives for a cover-up of what has really been found on Mars (i.e., life and/or possible evidence of a dead civilization - see my article about Dr. Brandenburg and his claim of a nuclear explosion in the Martian past).

ISSUES RAISED BY THE FINNISH METEOROLOGICAL INSTITUTE (FMI) AND OUR FIRST CONTACT WITH KAHANPÄÄ.  The FMI report by Kahanpää and Polkko (2009) discusses the Vaisala pressure sensor that it designed for use on Phoenix.³³ It states, "We should find out how the pressure tube is mounted in the spacecraft and if there are additional filters etc."  The one and only filter for the Vaisala transducer is shown on the top of Figure 3 (with its near twin for MSL shown on the bottom of Figure 3). I challenged the above statement on November 14, 2009, and published a criticism of it on my web site on November 17, 2009.  Kahanpää’s partial response from the FMI to my assertion that, "something stinks" about his request for information on additional filters was a follows:

“Your nose smelled also a real issue. The fact that we at FMI did not know how our sensor was mounted in the spacecraft and how many filters there were shows that the exchange of information between NASA and the foreign subcontractors did not work optimally in this mission!” (Kahanpää, personal communication, December 15, 2009).

       In his e-mail of December 15, 2009, Kahanpää made clear that there was no extra filter. However, the confusion in his report highlights another possibility.  As is shown on Figure 4, the filter is very small (~10 mm²). 

       Kahanpää is a critical man to understand. He was the scientist on the REMS Team responsible for publishing pressure data for MSL. As is shown later below on Figure 5, the REMS Team published pressures that varied from 747 hPa to 747 Pa in early September 2012. Annexes M, N, O, P , Q and R of our Report (Mars Correct - Critique of All NASA Mars Weather Data) detail other radical alterations in pressure data published for MSL Years 1 and 2. There is cause to ask whether Kahanpää was forced to alter data or whether he published Earth-like pressures to protest what he knew to be deliberate disinformation. 

       Like the Tavis transducers that were used for Vikings and Pathfinder, the Vaisala transducer was exposed to a vacuum on the way from Earth to Mars.  Again, when Phoenix landed, a lot of dust was raised by the retrorocket.  The air pressure outside was supposed to be low, almost as low as outer space.  The flow of air into the transducer therefore should not have been too fast.  However, if the pressure outside was higher than expected, the rate of flow of air and dust into the Phoenix would be faster than planned for, with the result that dust would be rapidly sucked in just like a vacuum cleaner would inhale it.  A tiny filter might well quickly clog with dust so fast (at supersonic speeds) that it would prevent more air from reaching the pressure transducer.

       With a clogged filter, pressure at the Barocap pressure sensor head would stay pegged at a low pressure reading. If there was a higher pressure on the outer side of the dust clog, it could not be felt on the inner side where the Barocap resided. This could explain the confusion by Kahanpää & Polkko and why they asked in their report about more filters being present. Even if the FMI team eventually received the needed information about relocation of heat sources, corrections to the pressure indicated at the Barocap pressure sensor head would not reflect what the true pressure was on the other side of the dust clog.

Examples of data altered by NASA after reading our critiques of the their data.

Part 1 - Pressure.

Table 1 shows some (not all) of how JPL/REMS altered off the curve data for August and September 2012 and August 2013 and on through at least April 14, 2017 after we either brought the deviations up to JPL Public Relations Director Guy Webster, or published on our davidaroffman.com and marscorrect.com websites.

Part 2 - Weird temperatures reported. See Figure 6.

GROUND TEMPERATURE PROBLEMS. For most of the first year the MSL REMS Team reports did not include ground temperatures. Then they began to include them – right back to MSL Sol 10 at http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl/mission/instruments/environsensors/rems/. However when I tried to make some sense out of the relationship between air and ground temperatures, I found the caveat that,

“Ground temperature will be recorded with a thermopile on Boom 1 that views the Martian surface to the side of the rover through a filter with a passband of 8 to 14 microns. The requirement is to measure ground brightness temperature over the range from 150 to 300 K with a resolution of 2 K and an accuracy of 10 K (http://msl-scicorner.jpl.nasa.gov/Instruments/REMS/).

An accuracy of 10K is almost worthless when looking at so many temperatures hovering around 273K (0° C). In fact, looking at the data from MSL Sols 10 through 652, the REMS Team offered maximum and minimum ground temperature for 584 sols. Fully 413 of the highs (over 70%) were between 283K (10° C) and 263 K (-10° C). See Figure 7. In spring of MSL Year 3 a maximum ground temperature of +24° C was recorded on Sol 1428 at Ls 202.

If there was an accuracy in the range 1 K or better we could probably deduce something intelligent about air density by looking at the rate of heat loss from the surface up to the boom, but with an accuracy of only 10K on the ground and 5 K in the air, it really isn’t worth the effort to do the math. The decision to go with such inaccurate sensors may be due to incompetence, or to design. All that can be said is that for $2.5 billion, we got inaccurate temperature sensors, nonfunctioning wind sensors, a relative humidity sensor that did not merit inclusion of its data on any daily weather reports, and, of course, the same pressure sensor as that on Phoenix that caused its designer so much distress. We also got data that was often suspiciously revised or deleted by JPL after I criticized it to JPL public relations man Guy Webster.

 THEDAY LENGTH CALCULATION BY DAVID A. ROFFMAN.

 The first step is to specify the latitude, φ. For purposes of my calculation, the latitude used was the actual latitude of the MSL on Mars, namely 4.59° South (written as -4.59). Next the declination (δ) must be calculated: δ = arcsin((sin(25.19)*sin(λsun)).  The required input is the Ls, which is λsun. The hour angle is then H = arccos((SIN(-.17) - SIN(φ)*SIN(δ))/(COS(φ)*COS(δ))).  This output must be in degrees.  The text speaks of calculating the solar transit (local noon).  However, it also notes that the sunrise and sunset times are the local noon time -/+ 1.027491*H/360.  By taking the equations for sunrise and sunset times (the actual formulae for the Julian dates are irrelevant as they share a common term that will be canceled) and subtracting the sunrise from the sunset one, a number is obtained.  This is the time interval between the sunset and sunrise times, and is hence the length of day.  The length of day is: 2*1.027491*H/360.  Multiply by 24 to get hours. The spreadsheet is shown as the Table below:
