SENATOR REID MAKES DEAL, AVOIDS GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN
A LATE NIGHT DEAL AGAINST GREAT (STATISTICAL) ODDS
Late on April 8, 2011, Senator Harry Reid caved into Republican demands and reached a deal with them to avoid a U.S. Government shutdown. The agreement came only 59 minutes before the deadline that would have thrown 800,000 Americans out of work, and left our troops unpaid until a budget could be reached. On this matrix the axis term is composed of 3 words: REID, THE DEAL. Parallel to it are two synonyms for GOVERNMENT. In the open text is SHUTDOWN. Also on the matrix is the current year, 5771/2011.
STATISTICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE MATRIX. The original axis term on this was just DEAL and I quickly noticed the letter hey in front of it making it THE DEAL. It was only later that I went looking for President Obama, House Majority Leader Baynor and Senate Majority Leader Reid. The first two men required a significant expansion of the matrix, and were thus rejected. But to my delight, REID was in front of and directly in sequence with THE DEAL thus allowing the axis term to grow to 9 letters (REID, THE DEAL) By my standard protocol, no statistical significance is assigned to an axis term. For the a priori key words, there were two terms for GOVERNMENT. The first GOVERNMENT has about 1 chance in 81 to be on the matrix, in part due to the fact that its 5 letters included a relatively rare letter tet rather than a tav for the T sound. The second word for GOVERMENT had no such rare letter. The chance for it to be there was about 1 in 5. In the open text was SHUTDOWN. It had only about 1 chance in 488 to be on the matrix at skip +1. The current year, 5771/2011 was there against odds of about 3 to 1. Overall, the matrix is rated a P = 1.67 X 10-6 which means that it had about 1 chance in 596,051 to exist by chance alone. It is thus highly significant.
