This photo shows the El Zuqba Peninsula as seen from orbit. El Zuqba's salt marshes (mallahets) dry up in summer leaving salt behind that is commercially extracted. These mallahets fill during the rainy season in the winter. The 24 km road is guarded by Egyptian military personnel as the entire peninsula is in a military restricted zone. Egyptian Coast Guard personnel also bar foreign access to the El Zuqba peninsula. The indigenous population is Beduoin. They use trucks with low inflated tires to dry over sand dunes. For more detailed and up to date orbitial views, see http://arkcode.com/photo.html. Further for a link to Google Maps and its satellite coverage of the El Zuqba Pennsula, use http://www.maplandia.com/egypt/frontier-governates/shamal-sina-north-sinai/qaryat-salmana/. This will take you to the southern part of the peninsula. You can then use your cursor to drag in the image from the entire area. Further, by clicking on the plus sign, you can zoon in to see great detail. You can also use the arrows to navigate. The suspect Ark site will be just north of where the link takes you (a town named Qaryat Salmana - just east of Bir El Suleman where the road up to the suspect Ark site begins).
